About the event

What is Zero Waste Day?

Zero Waste Day, observed annually on March 30, was established by the United Nations to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns, encourage the shift towards circularity, and raise awareness about how zero-waste initiatives contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

It highlights the urgent need to manage our waste more effectively, reduce pollution, and mitigate environmental impacts like climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.

The Importance of Zero Waste:

  • Environmental Impact: The waste sector significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity loss, and pollution. By aiming for zero waste, we work towards reducing these negative effects.

  • Resource Conservation: Zero waste promotes the idea that everything we use should be designed to become a resource for something else, minimizing the need to extract new materials.
