Bloom With The Seasons: The Complete Autumn Guide to Releasing, Healing & Nervous System Reset

🍂 Seasonal Information

  • Wheel of The Year Seasons: - Lammas marks the first harvest and a celebration of abundance. - Mabon is the second harvest and brings balance and gratitude. - Samhain is the final harvest and a time of deep release, letting go, and honouring what has ended.

This is the harvest and releasing phase, a sacred time of gathering what we have grown and gently letting go of what no longer serves us. As the energy in nature shifts toward rest, the earth invites deep healing, emotional release, and the thinning of the veil.

  • Southern Hemisphere Dates: 1st of February – 1st of May

  • Northern Hemisphere Dates: 1st of August – 1st of November

  • Chakra Energy: Sacral Chakra (emotional balance and flow) and Heart Chakra (forgiveness, compassion and self love)

As the days soften and the golden light of Autumn begins to fade, nature offers us one of her most tender invitations. From Lammas through to Samhain, this season gently guides us to slow down, reflect, and let go.

The trees do not cling to their leaves. They release them with grace as they prepare for rest and renewal. Autumn teaches us that endings are not failures. They are sacred preparation for what comes next.

This guide walks you through the beautiful work of releasing and healing. You will discover what these words really mean, how they touch every part of your being, and practical ways to do the work with kindness and compassion.

“Autumn shows us how beautiful it is to let things go.”

🌿 Why Autumn Is the Perfect Time for Releasing and Healing

Autumn is nature’s season of compassionate surrender. As the earth prepares for quieter months, we are invited to do the same. We create space by gently releasing what no longer serves us.

This season especially supports the Sacral Chakra for emotional balance and the Heart Chakra for forgiveness and self love. When we do this work now, we enter Winter with more lightness, clarity, and inner peace.

Skipping the releasing phase often means carrying old energy forward. Putting gentle effort in during Autumn helps us break old patterns and bloom more freely in the seasons ahead.

“Be like a tree and let the old leaves fall.”

🌱 What Does Releasing Really Mean?

Releasing is not about forcing yourself to get over something or pushing pain away. It is a gentle process of letting go of old stories, limiting beliefs, behaviours, past hurts, judgments, and fears that keep us stuck.

It means stopping the constant holding on and freeing yourself from the control these energies have over your daily life, emotions, and decisions.

Releasing can happen on many levels through somatic body based practices, energetic clearing, breathwork, movement, or simply choosing to stop feeding certain thoughts and patterns.

When we carry low vibrational energies like unresolved trauma, negative memories, fear, or judgment, we unconsciously broadcast them into the energetic field. Through the law of attraction we often receive more of the same experiences back. This is sometimes called trauma cycling.

Releasing helps break that cycle and creates space for new, lighter energy.

“Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.”

❤️ What Does Healing Really Mean?

Healing is not about becoming perfect or erasing the past. It is about becoming whole again and integrating all parts of yourself with compassion.

In Autumn, healing often focuses on the emotional and energetic layers while gently supporting the others:

  • Physical body: rest, nourishment, and gentle movement

  • Emotional body: feeling and processing emotions instead of suppressing them

  • Mental body: releasing repetitive thoughts and limiting beliefs

  • Energetic body: clearing stuck or heavy energy

  • Spiritual body: reconnecting with your inner wisdom and higher self

True healing happens when we address these layers together, especially through the heart chakra with compassion and forgiveness, and the sacral chakra for emotional self regulation and flow.

“The truth is, unless you let go, forgive yourself, forgive the situation, and realize the past is over, you cannot move forward.”

🧠 The Nervous System Connection

Releasing and healing become much easier and safer when your nervous system feels regulated. Your window of tolerance is the zone where you can handle emotions and stress without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down. When we carry unprocessed trauma or heavy energy, we often live outside this window. We swing between hyperarousal (anxiety and fight or flight) and hypoarousal (numbness and freeze).

We can only be in one state at a time. Either a calm, regulated, powerful and creative state, or a primal survival state.

Activating the parasympathetic nervous system (your rest and digest mode) is key. Simple practices like slow breathing, warm baths, or quiet time in nature help shift you into this healing state.

A calm nervous system gives you the safety and capacity to release old patterns without feeling flooded. When your body feels safe, it becomes much easier to let go of what no longer serves your highest good. With lower stress hormones, all five bodies can begin to heal where they need it most.

“Healing is the process of teaching your nervous system that peace is safe.”

🍁 Practical Ways to Release and Heal This Autumn

Here are some doable practices you can return to again and again:

  1. Gratitude Harvest Walk: Take a slow walk in nature and notice what you are harvesting from the past year (goals achieved etc.). Collect a few fallen leaves or small natural items that feel meaningful. As you walk, name what you are ready to release and what you are grateful to keep. This grounds you in the present and supports emotional balance.

  2. Progressive Muscle Release:

Lie down or sit comfortably. Starting from your toes and moving up to your head, gently tense each muscle group for a few seconds, then release it fully. Notice the difference between holding and letting go. This somatic practice helps release stored tension in the physical and energetic body.

  3. Mindful Observation Practice: When a strong thought, memory, or emotion arises, pause and simply name it neutrally. For example, say to yourself “there is worry” or “there is sadness” instead of diving into the story. Observe the sensation in your body without feeding it more emotion or judgment. This mindfulness technique stops you from adding extra emotional charge and helps regulate your nervous system.

  4. Warmth and Grounding Ritual: Prepare a warm herbal tea or foot soak. Hold a grounding crystal and place your feet on the earth (or imagine roots growing down). Breathe slowly and invite heavy energy to release downward into the ground. This supports the root chakra and creates a feeling of safety.

  5. Create an Autumn Altar: Gather a few fallen leaves in their beautiful shades of gold, orange, and deep red. Add a piece of rose quartz to open and soothe the heart chakra, and a piece of carnelian to support emotional balance and gentle courage.

Include one of our healing candles and a few natural items such as dried branches, acorns, or small pinecones collected from outside. Arrange everything thoughtfully in a quiet corner of your home.

Light the candle when you sit with your altar and let its soft glow remind you to release and soften. Visit your altar each day as a gentle invitation to pause, breathe, and create space within yourself.
